Public Safety is My Priority | Alfonzo Williams Burke County Sheriff

Alfonzo Williams Training

Public safety is crucial to the overall health and prosperity of our community and Sheriff Williams has worked diligently to assure the safety and well-being of not only the 23,000 people who call Burke County home but also the nearly 10,000 persons working at Vogtle along with the men and women of the Burke County Sheriff's Office who protect them.

Sheriff Williams' has worked hard to reduce burglaries, reduce violent crimes and curb gang activity. He has found ways to reduce overhead and allocate as much money as possible to achieve these goals through the use of partnerships, donations, state grants and federal grants.

His immediate focus will be to continue reducing drug activity which has helped to decrease violent and property crimes by over 50%.  Additionally, he will continue working pro-actively with the Department of Transportation, Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, and the Georgia State Patrol through partnerships and grants to reduce crashes with injuries and fatalities throughout the county.

He plans to step up current efforts to share information on every arrest and incident via computer with the city police, the magistrate court, the clerk of superior court, juvenile justice and state probation.  We continue to look for ways in addition to Facebook, Media Releases, and our Web Site to ensure the public is kept informed and that we are fully transparent.
