The election of a county sheriff is often decided by only a handful of votes. Even a single vote can make the difference between victory and defeat. As our volunteer team grows, we can engage more voters. As we engage more voters, our volunteer team will grow. When a campaign has a dedicated group of volunteers, it stops just being a campaign. It starts to become a movement.
Let’s think about the value of volunteers in terms of numbers. Imagine you’re the only volunteer and you goal is to knock on 2,000 doors before Election Day. Weekends are your best day to canvass because you are off from work and other people are too. You figure you can canvass five hours each day, and you think you can cover about 20 doors in an hour, all you need to do is some simple math.
5 hours x 20 doors x 2 days per weekend = 2 doors x 10 weekends.= 2,000 doors.
That’s 100 hours of work ... a lot of effort for one person. You would have to start about 10 weeks before Election Day to knock on all of these doors .So doors. So the more volunteers we can recruit to help, the more that equation changes.
If we add 10 volunteers, you go from working five hours a day, two days a week, for 10 weeks, to knocking on 2,000 doors in just one weekend. Bring in 20 volunteers and you can get it done in just one day. So you see the value of volunteers.
Running campaign is expensive and donors are crucial to any successful campaign. We reach potential voters by buying advertising and traveling the county which covers 827 square miles. Advertising, printed materials, bumper stickers, our website and other costs add up. Even small contributions can help make the difference.
